Mask Tool Instructions

The Mask Tool is used to create a Mask Layer. A mask layer can be used in many operations to select the area or areas to receive the change.

Brush On

With the Brush On button down, you can directly paint the mask on areas of interest. The brush works the same as brushing on color, the lines in the selected layer will clip the brush unless the Shift key is held down.

Erase

Use the Erase brush to remove unwanted areas from the mask.

Fill

With the Fill button down, you can click on an area bounded by lines and fill the entire area with mask.

All

With the Brush-On button down, press All to fill the entire area with mask. This is useful when masking a layer containing an object. You can easily erase the mask from the object's surroundings by clipping the brush with the object outline, leaving the interior of the object masked.

Invert

Press Invert to invert the mask.

Sample

You can create a mask by selecting a color. Press the Sample button and click the sample brush on the color you want to mask.

Color

Press Color to create or recreate a mask based on the selected color.

Tolerance

When creating a mask from a color, you can adjust the tolerance to include or exclude colors that are slightly different than the selected color.
