Applique Load Instructions

Select the ColorCaps/Applique/Load menu item to get a file dialog showing the contents of the Applique Folder. Switch to thumbnail mode, if necessary, to see the various patterns. Navigate to the one you want to try and double-click on it. A full-drawing layer will be created from the selected Applique pattern and the Load Applique controls will become active.

The applique shown is an abstract pattern based on circular features.

This view shows the ColorCaps screen with the unmodified applique loaded and the Load Applique controls active. The controls are used to conveniently modify the applique as needed:

Modified Load
A dark blue color was selected via the palette, the line width was changed to 2, the scale was increased a little and a new version was created by pressing Create Applique:

Here's the same thing with Plus 90 checked. Instead of just rotating it, it makes a rotated copy and adds that to the existing layer. This technique is useful for making grids and getting a dense pattern:

You can apply a uniform color to the applique layer, just like any other layer. Here a semi-transparent yellow-green was used:

If the pattern has, for the most part, closed areas, you can use the Auto Variation controls to modify the color:

Once you have the applique layer adjusted, you can brush it into various areas of the drawing using the Applique Tool or apply it with a mask.

For example, the bricks in the Merchant's Bank drawing are applique, applied with a brush. A little auto-variation was used:
